The following table shows data derived from the Economic Characteristics table. The top 10 cities/places having the highest median household income ($MHI) are shown. The table also shows population, median family income ($MFI) and per capita income ($PCI). The $250,000 value is a cap; the actual value is $250,000 or higher. Use the interactive tables to create similar views for states of interest. Use the button below the table to select/view cities within a selected metro. Compare attributes of cities of interest to a peer group based on population size.

Regional Economic Information System: Annual Updates

.. which counties are experiencing the fastest economic growth? by what economic component? what does this look like on a per capita level?

.. access & analyze economic characteristics and patterns by county and state .. annual time series 1969 through 2015 with projections.  Personal income is the income available to persons for consumption expenditures, taxes, interest payments, transfer payments to governments and the rest of the world, or for saving. Use the interactive table to examine characteristics of counties and regions of interest. The table provides access to 31 personal income related summary measures. These data are a selection of a broader set of annual time series data from the Regional Economic Information System (REIS). REIS is a part of the ProximityOne State & Regional Income & Product Accounts (SRIPA) and Situation & Outlook (S&O) featuring current (2016) estimates and demographic-economic projections. Children’s Demographics by School District

.. data and tools to analyze children’s demographics by school district ..  the ACS 2014 median household income for the Houston ISD, TX (HISD) was $46,069 (all households) compared to $41,896 (grade relevant children’s households). How does economic prosperity (or choose from many other attributes) vary between the total population of an area and to those of total children or grade relevant children by type of enrollment in districts of interest? See related Web section with interactive table.

This section summarizes data and tools to access to the children’s demographic-economic data, based on the 2014 American Community Survey (ACS 2014) school district special tabulation (SDST), for each/all school districts. These data provide insights into the population, social, economic and housing characteristics of total children and grade relevant children — in contrast to the total population and housing. Use the interactive table below to view, rank, compare, query children’s characteristics.

Importance of these Data
The annually updated SDST data are a unique source of data to help stakeholders understand demographic-economic characteristics of total children as well as grade relevant children. The real power of these data is that they enable analysis of children’s living characteristics by type of enrollment (enrolled in public school, enrolled in private school, not enrolled) by school district. For example, in this Houston ISD, TX profile it can be determined that of those grade relevant children who ‘speak English less than “very well”.

… 810 or 3.9% of total grade relevant children enrolled private (very low)
– not enrolled
… 3,265 or 30.9% of total grade relevant children not enrolled (very high)

How does Houston ISD compare to Dallas ISD? … to Los Angeles Unified? … use these data to find out. Whether ability to speak English, or other living/demographic environmental characteristics, these are among the factors that can primarily influence educational outcomes.

Comparing the Number of Households
The total number of households compared to the number of households with grade relevant children is often in the range of 3-to-4 to 1. The following table shows illustrative examples for selected districts.

Scope of the School District Special Tabulation
The School District Special Tabulation is a tabulation of the characteristics of children who reside within the boundaries of a school district. Note that such residents/children might attend a school located outside of the school district of residence. Subject matter items are tabulated for these seven universes:
• all children — population ages 0-19, 18 & 19 not high school graduates
• all school age, grade relevant children
– children enrolled
– children enrolled in public school
– children enrolled in private school
– relevant children not enrolled

Real Purchasing Power by State & Metro

Use data and tools reviewed here to examine the purchasing power of the incomes in different metros and states … this section provides access to regional price parities (RPPs) estimates developed compare regions within the U.S. RPPs are regional price levels expressed as a percentage of the overall national price level for a given year. The price level is determined by the average prices paid by consumers for the mix of goods and services consumed in each region. See about these data. Using the RPP — Illustrative Examples
1. Comparing real purchasing power:
  — Houston, TX metro compared to Waco, TX metro.
The the all items RPP for the Houston metro in 2014 was 100.3 while the all items RPP for the Waco, TX metro in 2014 was 91.5. (from RPP table). On average, prices are 0.3 percent higher and 8.5 percent lower than the U.S. average for the Houston metro and the Waco metro, respectively. The per capita personal income (PCPI) for the Houston metro in 2014 was $54,820 and the per capita personal income for the Waco metro was $35,340 (get from the table at http://proximityone.com/reis.htm). The RPP-adjusted PCPI values are $53,223 ($54,820/1.03) and $38,622 ($35,340/0.915), respectively. The gap between the purchasing power of the two metro PCPIs is reduced when adjusted by their respective RPPs.

2. Comparing real purchasing power:
  — Washington, DC metro compared to Columbia, MO metro.
• Washington, DC metro 2014 all items RPP: is 119.4 (from RPP table); 2014 PCPI: $62,975 (from this table)
• Columbia, MO metro 2014 all items RPP: 93.0 (from RPP table); 2014 PCPI: $41,418 (from this table)
• The RPP-adjusted PCPI values are $52,742 ($62,975/1.194) and $44,535 ($41,418/0.93), respectively.

New Residential Construction by County

.. what’s happening in the north Dallas metro? .. a lot, take a look at the patterns of new residential construction for Collin and Denton counties using data and tools presented in this section. Examine new residential construction, leading economic indicator, for counties and regions of interest to you anywhere in the U.S. Use of the Regional Demographic-Economic Modeling System (RDEMS) to examine patterns of residential construction in context of related wide-ranging, multi-sourced data.

Leading Economic Indicator
Building permit data (housing units authorized by building permits for new residential construction) are economic leading indicators. Investors and housing developers use these data to examine the characteristics and trends in new residential housing development. The short time lag between the data reference date and data access date, 1-2 months, makes this set of indicators important in assessing the current situation and patterns during the past year or more. The national scope coverage and geographic granularity (state, metro, county and city) enable comparison among types of areas and peer groups. Finance and real estate professional and researchers examine building permit patterns to develop strategic insights. Government and policy makers use these data to get a pulse on markets and changing patterns to administer programs and operations. See more about these data below in this section.

New residential construction begins with building permits. Overall U.S. housing starts are approximately 2.5% less than permits issued (22.5% less for multi-family units). Completions are approximately 4% less than starts (7.5% less for multi-family units). During the past year-plus, “residential fixed investment” has been approximately $500 billion and remained steady at 3.1% of real Gross Domestic Product.

America’s Million+ Population Cities

.. there are 10 million+ population cities in the U.S. .. each is reviewed in some detail in this section .. the change in U.S. city population from 2010 to 2015 ranged from growth of 357,979 in New York City to a decline of in Detroit, MI. New York City is actually five counties; the next largest city growth was Houston, TX with a 181,463 population gain. See cities with largest growth or decline using the interactive table.

The July 1, 2015 Census Bureau model-based estimates for the U.S. 19,505 incorporated cities show a total population of 202,066,769 compared to 192,179,239 as of Census 2010. These areas are incorporated cities as recognized by their corresponding state governments and granted certain governmental rights and responsibilities. ProximityOne integrates these estimates, with related data, in models to develop projections, examine change and assess the impact of change.
